IFR clinic - in house

Come join us for our first IFR clinic, held in-house, where we discuss best practices and pitfalls of IFR flying, with a close focus on our home area.

We will discuss items such as:

- Why go IFR when you can do VFR?
- Building the IFR route in ForeFlight and/or GarminPilot
- Filing the route and receiving an expected route
- Expected route vs. Cleared route
- ODP, when should I use one? Diverse departure procedure(s)
- Checking in with ATC – Best practices. (altitude/hdg/waypoint)
- On long distance flights – check updated WX with FSS
- The “2 moves ahead” school of thought borrowed from Chess
- Getting close to your destination? Do the descend math!
- STAR review
- Arriving at a non-towered field – best practices and pitfalls
- Closing your IFR flight plan

Participation is recommended for all pilots, IFR and VFR pilots with an interest in continuing to learn. Keep in mind that many IFR procedures can be used by VFR pilots to make VFR flight safer.

Join us for lunch in Marathon.

We will board our "Flying Machines" and head down the coast towards Marathon under VFR, with "Flight Following"

If you haven't flown to the Keys yet, this is an absolute MUST.

We will land at KMTH, park at the FBO there and head to the Sunset Grill, a nice little restaurant at the foot of the world famous Seven Mile Bridge.
